About Me:
I provide brief and long-term individual psychotherapy and assessment services. I have been providing therapy for more than ten years, and I have had the honor of supporting survivors of sexual violence and trauma for nearly 20 years. I have worked in community mental health and university counseling settings. I opened my practice with the hope of joining with my clients as we embark on a journey of healing, self-discovery, and crafting a life that is meaningful and exciting. My primary treatment areas are responding to and navigating complex trauma, understanding and exploring sexual orientation and gender identity, navigating life transitions, and exploring intersecting identities. I am also very well-versed in supporting individuals with anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, caregiving, and those hoping to re-establish a sense of work-life harmony. I love working with adolescents, emerging adults, college students, early career professionals, and adults throughout the lifespan.

My style of therapy is informal and collaborative; you are the expert in your life, and together we can co-create a life that is both exciting and deeply fulfilling. I use evidence-based treatments, and I believe deeply in the power of a healing relationship that can have a ripple effect on all aspects of your life. I also use an integrative and strengths-based approach in my work, and I often use interpersonal, developmental, dialectical-behavioral, body-centered, and mindfulness techniques in therapy. My approach is primarily informed by attachment, feminist, and humanistic theories.

My office space is ADA-accessible, on local bus routes, and has free parking for clients while in session. An initial visit will be a collaborative experience of sharing information, building trust, identifying goals, and making a true connection so that you can feel supported as you embark on the journey of understanding yourself better and making changes that support you best.

My partner and I have made our home here in the High Country for the past six years. Together we have a full house with two dogs, a cat, chickens, and a fantastic tiny human. In the next two years we plan to resume beekeeping. I love the outdoors and spending quality time with the people I love. I also find and do the things that set my soul on fire. I’m looking forward to working with people who are ready to reignite their passion for life, and those who want to explore their experiences with a fresh set of eyes. Please call 828-200-3679 or email me (slangstonphd@gmail.com) and schedule a consultation with me.
